Bit of history

Gregory Lake was built under the time of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873. Before 1827, the area of present lake had been a swamp with streams running and water sources being coming from the nearby mountains throughout the year. This is the most unmistakable fascination in Nuwara Eliya and all the vistors used to come here and invested eventually by the lake and unwind. This was utilized as a spot for water sports and for re-ecreational exercises during the British time. Graory lake gets packed in the April traveler season. The total length of the drive around the lake was six miles at the time.
